This was a fun one the little man and I found on Instagram and decided to give it a go. A decidedly easy bread to make so I decided to store it on the website for future reference.
Ingredients
- 500g (or about 4 cups) of bread flour
- 350g (or about 1.5 cups) of room temp water
- 10g (or about 1 and 3/4 tsp) of salt
- 7g (or about 2 and 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
Quick note: for best results use the weight measurements versus the cups/ spoon measurements; but the first few times we did this we didn’t have a scale and it worked out.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius (or about 395 Fahrenheit)
- In a bowl, mix all ingredients into a shaggy dough, remove from bowl and knead for 5 to 10 minutes to shape it into a smooth ball.
- Put some oil and rub it around the bowl, then return your dough to the bowl and cover until it doubles in size (about 1.5 hours, but really look for it to double, could take more or less time).
- Once double, remove dough from bowl and knead into a rectangle shape
- Loosely roll it into a sausage, tucking in the corners as it goes.
- Rub some oil around a loaf tin, pop that sausage dough into it, cover and let sit until it doubles in size (dust it with some flour if you wanna be fancy) this can take about 30 minutes to an hour (again, keep an eye on it; don’t let it rise too much)
- Once doubled, score the loaf down the middle and toss in the over for 30 minutes or so. Add a pan with some water in it to the bottom rack to keep the bread from drying out.
- Remove after 30, remove loaf from tin, put back in the offer to let it finish up for another 5 or so
- Remove from over and let sit for 30 minutes.
